3D CertHub App

One app for your whole Technical File

Build, organise and maintain your UKCA Technical File without relying on disconnected spreadsheets, PDFs and folders. Risk assessment, EN71 testing, material evidence, labelling, Declaration of Conformity and production traceability, all connected to the product they belong to. Built specifically for small 3D-printing businesses making toys.

Available for Windows and macOS.

The 3D CertHub dashboard gives you a clear overview of your technical files, filament records, EN71-3 certificates and compliance alerts, with quick access to the tools you need.

See your whole Technical File at a glance

The dashboard shows what has been completed, what still needs attention and the records connected to each product.

Instead of trying to remember which spreadsheet, certificate or folder contains the evidence, you can see the position of the Technical File in one place.

How it works

1. Create your product

Add the product details, intended use, age grading, photographs, construction information and print settings.

This creates the product definition that the risk assessment, testing, materials and labelling will be built around.

2. Complete and connect the evidence

Work through the risk assessment and applicable EN71 checks, record your results and link the exact materials and certificates used.

The information stays connected to the product rather than becoming a collection of unrelated files.

3. Export and maintain the file

Create the Technical File and Declaration of Conformity, then maintain production batches, variants, materials and changes as the product continues to be sold.

Built specifically for 3D-printing businesses

CertHub is structured around the way small 3D-printing businesses actually manufacture toys.

For each product, you can record:

  • Digital model and product details
  • Intended use and age grading
  • Product photographs
  • Dimensions and construction
  • Printer and print settings
  • Filament brand, range, material and colour
  • Individual spools and lot information
  • Adhesives, paints and added components
  • EN71-3 certificates
  • Product testing
  • Colour variants
  • Production batches
  • Design and material changes

This makes it easier to connect the product being sold to the design, settings, materials and evidence behind it.

Define the product properly

Every Technical File begins with a clear product definition.

The app helps you record:

  • What the product is
  • How it is intended to be used
  • Its intended age group
  • Its dimensions
  • How it is constructed
  • The materials and components used
  • The print settings
  • Any accessories supplied with it

This information provides the foundation for the risk assessment, testing and labelling that follow.

Work through the risk assessment

The app guides you through a structured product risk assessment covering the relevant areas of toy safety.

You can:

  • Identify hazards
  • Record who may be at risk
  • Add existing control measures
  • Assess the remaining risk
  • Record further action where needed
  • Explain why a requirement does or does not apply
  • Keep the assessment linked to the current product design

The app organises the assessment and records your decisions. You remain responsible for identifying the product's risks and ensuring they are properly controlled.

Record your EN71-1 testing

Work through the applicable mechanical and physical checks for the finished toy.

The app includes the following 11 EN71-1 testing sections:

  1. Material cleanliness
  2. Small parts (cylinder test)
  3. Soak testing
  4. Torque
  5. Tension
  6. Drop testing
  7. Tip-over
  8. Impact or compression
  9. Sharpness of edges
  10. Sharpness of points
  11. Cleanability

For each check, the app helps you record:

  • The feature or part tested
  • The test carried out
  • Equipment and test conditions
  • The result
  • Damage or detached parts
  • Your assessment of the outcome
  • Supporting photographs
  • Corrective action and retesting

Not every check applies to every toy. Where a check does not apply, you can record the reason instead of leaving an unexplained gap.

The EN71-1 test summary, showing the results of each mechanical and physical test and how the failed tension test was assessed, recorded and addressed through age grading and a small-parts warning.

Complete the EN71-2 assessment

The app records your EN71-2 flammability assessment, including the method used, the material type and the conclusion reached.

If a specific physical test applies, you can record the method, result and supporting evidence.

For an ordinary rigid 3D-printed toy, a physical flame-spread test may not apply, but the assessment should still be completed and documented.

Keep materials and certificates connected

The Material Register records the exact filament and other materials used across your products.

For filament, you can record:

  • Manufacturer or brand
  • Filament range
  • Material type
  • Colour
  • Supplier
  • Spool reference
  • Batch or lot information
  • Weight tracking
  • Received, opened and finished dates
  • Supporting EN71-3 certificate
  • Certificate review date

You can upload certificates obtained through 3D CertHub or suitable evidence obtained elsewhere.

The certificate remains linked to the material rather than being stored as an unrelated PDF that you later need to identify.

Trace materials through to production

Recording a certificate is only part of material traceability.

The app helps connect:

  • A certificate to the supported material
  • The material to an individual spool
  • The spool to a production batch
  • The production batch to the finished product

If you later need to identify which filament was used for a particular batch, the records are already connected.

Add components, adhesives and finishes

A 3D-printed toy may contain more than filament.

The app includes component categories for:

  • Adhesives
  • Paints and coatings
  • Fasteners
  • Eyes and noses
  • Joints and armatures
  • Sound or clicker mechanisms
  • Magnets
  • Electronic components
  • Fabric and textile components
  • Other bought-in components

Supporting evidence can be attached and linked to the product in which the material or component is used.

Create labelling and marking records

Record the information applied to the toy, packaging or accompanying documentation, including:

  • UKCA marking
  • Manufacturer's name
  • Contact address
  • Product identification
  • Batch or model reference
  • Age grading
  • Required warnings
  • Instructions and safety information

The app keeps the labelling record with the product, risk assessment and testing it relates to.

Prepare the Declaration of Conformity

Once the supporting sections are complete, the app helps you prepare the UK Declaration of Conformity.

The Declaration brings together the manufacturer, product identification, applicable legislation and standards, and the person signing on behalf of the business.

The app helps organise and prepare the document. You remain responsible for confirming that the supporting evidence is complete and signing the Declaration.

Produce an organised Technical File

Export the product definition, risk assessment, testing records, material evidence, labelling and Declaration of Conformity as an organised Technical File.

Batch records and variants can also be exported and retained alongside the main file.

This gives you a file that can be reviewed, stored and produced if requested, rather than a folder containing documents that no longer clearly relate to one another.

The Print & Export section, showing the completed Technical File PDF, Declaration of Conformity, batch records, product variants and labels ready to open or print.

Manage batches and variants

Compliance does not finish when the first Technical File is created.

The app allows you to maintain:

  • Production batch records
  • Batch dates and quantities
  • Filament and spool traceability
  • Colour variants
  • Changes to the design
  • Changes to materials or components
  • Retesting
  • Updated labelling
  • A record of what changed and when

This helps the Technical File continue to reflect the product being manufactured.

A different material, size or construction may require a separate assessment or Technical File. The app keeps the records organised, but the manufacturer must decide when a change affects compliance.

Everything stays connected

Individual records can look correct while the overall file gradually drifts out of date.

For example:

  • A filament certificate may not show which products relied on it.
  • Testing may relate to an earlier version of the design.
  • A component may change without the risk assessment being reviewed.
  • A new colour may fall outside the available material evidence.
  • A later batch may use a different spool or filament range.

CertHub keeps the records connected to the relevant product, making the Technical File easier to maintain, review and produce when needed.

Your data stays on your computer

Your Technical Files, photographs, certificates and production records are stored locally on your machine.

3D CertHub does not host your compliance data in the cloud. Your business records remain under your control.

You can create backups and export your files so they can be retained independently of the app.

You stay in control

The app organises and documents your work. It does not conduct the physical tests, decide that a product is safe or take over your legal responsibility as the manufacturer.

You remain responsible for:

  • The product and its intended use
  • The risk assessment
  • Carrying out the applicable tests correctly
  • Assessing the results
  • Choosing and using suitable material evidence
  • Keeping production consistent
  • The final Declaration of Conformity

CertHub gives you the structure, guidance and record-keeping tools to manage that responsibility properly.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to understand UKCA compliance before using the app?

You do not need to be an expert. The app breaks the Technical File into manageable sections and provides guidance throughout the process.

You still need to understand your own product, carry out the applicable checks and make the final compliance decisions.

If you are completely new to the process, begin with our introductory guidance: New to UKCA compliance? Start here.

Does the app carry out the tests for me?

No. The app guides you through the applicable checks and provides a structured place to record the method, result, photographs and conclusion.

The physical testing must be carried out by you using the appropriate equipment and guidance.

Does 3D CertHub see or store my Technical Files?

No. Your app data is stored locally on your computer and does not leave your machine.

Can I use certificates obtained elsewhere?

Yes. You can upload and link suitable EN71-3 evidence obtained through 3D CertHub, a material manufacturer, supplier or another appropriate source.

You remain responsible for checking that the evidence is suitable and matches the exact material used.

Can I record different colours?

Yes. Colour variants can be recorded against an existing Technical File where the product design, size, construction, filament brand, range and material remain the same.

A different material, size or construction may require a separate assessment or Technical File.

Can I record production batches?

Yes. Batch records can connect production dates and quantities to the materials and spools used.

Can I move the app to another computer?

Yes. If you still have access to the old computer, go to Settings → Deactivate This Machine to release the licence before activating it on the new computer.

You must also transfer the locally stored data folder. If the old computer is no longer available and the licence cannot be deactivated, contact us and we will transfer it for you.
