Frequently Asked Questions
About EN71.3 Certificates
What is an EN71.3 certificate?
EN71.3 is a UK safety standard that specifies requirements for the migration of certain elements from toy materials. Our certificates provide official documentation proving that 3D printing filaments meet these safety standards, making them suitable for use in toys and products intended for children.
Why do I need an EN71.3 certificate?
If you manufacture toys, children's products, or items that have play value, EN71.3 certification demonstrates compliance with UK safety regulations. It's essential for regulatory submissions, quality assurance, customer confidence, and legal compliance when selling to UK markets.
Are these certificates official and authentic?
Yes. All certificates we provide are authentic test reports from accredited UK laboratories. Each certificate includes traceable test data, laboratory information, and official certification marks.
Do you sell to consumers?
No. We exclusively serve UK businesses that require EN71.3 certification for their commercial operations, manufacturing, and regulatory compliance needs.
About Colours and Testing
What does CMYK mean and why does it matter?
CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black) represents the four primary colours used in printing and colour reproduction. CMYK colours are commonly tested because they represent the core pigment systems used across a material range. Testing CMYK provides a practical and recognised basis for assessing colour variants produced using the same formulation. Learn more about our CMYK colour selection methodology.
Why aren't all products certified in standard CMYK colours?
Not all manufacturers produce their filaments across the complete CMYK spectrum. When full CMYK certification isn't available, we select alternative colours that provide the broadest safety coverage based on pigment chemistry and common use cases, which then allow you to determine their appropriate use using due diligence. Read our detailed explanation of colour selection.
What is due diligence for small businesses?
Due diligence means taking reasonable and proportionate steps to ensure the products you supply are safe and compliant, and to avoid causing harm. For small businesses, this does not mean testing every individual item or colour, but being able to show that you have acted responsibly; by understanding your materials, keeping appropriate records, and relying on credible independent testing where available. In practice, due diligence is about what a reasonable business in your position would do, taking into account the size and nature of your operation.
How does due diligence relate to CMYK testing?
For EN71-3 testing, CMYK testing is widely used as a representative approach for a specific filament brand and product type. Where CMYK colours are tested, the results may be used to support due diligence across other colours within the same range, provided the material formulation is unchanged. Certificates supplied by us are intended to support a business’s due diligence and must be considered alongside the business’s own assessment of how the certificate applies to their specific products.

Technical Questions
Can I use these certificates for commercial products?
Yes. Our certificates are specifically designed for UK business and commercial use, including regulatory submissions and customer documentation.
Are these certificates valid outside the UK?
EN71.3 is a UK standard (adopted from European standards), and the safety testing data may be recognized internationally. However, you should verify specific requirements for your target markets if selling outside the UK.
How often do certificates need to be renewed?
Certificates remain valid as long as the filament formulation remains unchanged. If a manufacturer updates their formula or pigments, new testing and certification would be required.
